Help! What Should I Talk About at IGNITE Tampa 3?

I am having trouble deciding what to talk about at IGNITE TAMPA 3.

Idea 1: Happiness is Not an Accident

Idea 2: Everything is Amazing, No one is Happy – kind of a Cranky Bastards talk.

Idea 3: What Are We Trying to Do in Tampa?

What Makes a Great IGNITE Talk?

We are in the middle of organizing IGNITE Tampa Bay #3, which will be held on April 25th, 2013. Doors at the Tampa Theatre open at 6.

For such an awesome venue, we want some awesome talks.

IGNITE is a global format like Pecha Kucha and TED. We refer to it as TED Lite. The tag line is “Enlighten us, but make it quick!”

It is 5 minutes, 300 seconds – with 20 slides auto-advancing every 15 seconds.

So what goes into a great IGNITE talk? Passion and Ethusiasm – What do you Love?

The committee in Tampa Bay chooses the speakers based on mainly 4 criteria:

  1. The Headline – in all of marketing that is most important
  2. Speaker bio – keep it brief and relevant – it’s just a 5 minute talk
  3. Topic Description – be clear, be concise, be descriptive, don’t repeat the headline
  4. Are You Known – has anyone on the committee heard you speak or what does Google or Twitter say.

I know that doesn’t sound fair, but you have control over 3 of the most important factors.

There are many articles to help you out – like this good one or this one. Or watch some of the videos from the other two we held. We aren’t looking for perfect but we are looking for passion, focus, and concise – 5 minutes is long and short.

{UPDATE} I wrote about this before, so sorry for the repeat. But some good links on the original post too.

Another really good one in slideshare!

Off to See Seth Godin Again

Filed under: events,Guerrilla Marketing,Peter Radizeski,seth — Monday, May 14, 2012 @ 8:18 am

I leave tomorrow for another full day with Seth Godin in NYC. I was at Seth’s Linchpin day long launch in April of 2010. Here’s hoping for a recharge and a brain stimulation.

I have read most – if not all – of his books, including Wisdom and the Guerrilla Marketing Handbook (that he co-wrote with Jay Conrad Levinson)

I am part of a Six-pack group that will be meeting for coffee at 8 AM at the Cosmo Hotel before heading over to the Tribeca Performing Arts Center for the 9 AM event. And it is an event. There is a digital directory of attendees, there is Q&A, surprises, and a huge collection of the Tribe! I am going to hear from Seth and to meet some other consultants. Hoping to get some gems I can use in my business.

May is a Busy Month

I will be attending InterOp for the first time ever in Vegas to see what that is like. And I’m driving over to Blackberry World to see my buddy Jack. But the month of May is filled with events, including the Standlye Cup playoffs. Meanwhile, I am juggling a number of projects. But here’s where to go to help a charity, network and have some fun.

This weekend is BarCamp Sarasota at the G.Wiz science museum.

Then next Saturday, May 7th from 8pm – 11pm is the annual Sea Grapes 2011. It’s a big WineFest as you stroll through The Aquarium.

On May 14, 2011 is an event I have never attended: The Royal Swan Gala. It will be a black tie affair at the Westin Harbour Island benefiting the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Then Linda Conley of Connect Tampa is holding a Bachelor/Bachelorette Auction as a fundraiser for The Stylez G White Better Us Foundation. My friend Leah will be a Bachelorette. This will be on Thursday, May 19, 2011 from 6-10 PM at Hula Bay.

Then of course, Memorial Day is Monday, May 30.

One weekend in June is really busy. On June 25, 2011,
Business Buddies is having their annual Havana Nights event at the Tampa History Center, while the Ryan Nece Foundation event is the same evening. But DISPATCH is playing in Boston, so I am going to be hanging with my niece in New England.

There’s also a wedding on June 4th – big congrats to the bride!

What did I miss?
